Stuart received his MChem degree in Chemistry with Industrial Experience from Heriot-Watt University in 2020. During his degree, he completed a yearlong industrial placement with Fiberlean Technologies in Cornwall, working on development of paper and packaging additives using microfibrillated cellulose. He also worked on two shorter synthetic chemistry projects; with Dr. Ai-Lan Lee on gold(I)-catalysed asymmetric synthesis, and with Dr. Filipe Vilela on the development of conjugated porous polymers for use in photoredox catalysis.
He joined the Micklefield group in July 2021 as part of the EPSRC-funded iCAT CDT. His project centres around the integration of chemocatalysis and biocatalysis, giving new routes to make and functionalise molecules.
