Jessica Logue

Jess studied for an MChem degree in Chemistry at Lancaster University from 2016-2020. In her final year project, she studied platinum based anticancer drugs that interact with and suppress the function of the GPX1 enzyme implicated in multi drug resistant tumours. This was supervised by Dr Michael Coogan.

Jess also undertook two summer internships, the first of which was at Incorez in 2018 where she was based in R&D working on the synthesis of aldimines – specifically Aldirez BH which is a commercially available aldimine latent curing agent. In 2019, she completed an internship in API chemistry at GSK in Stevenage. One project involved green amide synthesis using activated silica instead of coupling agents, whilst the other involved optimising conditions for the late-stage nitrogen methylation of an immunosuppressive drug target.

Jess joined the Micklefield group in 2020 and her project involves the characterisation, development, and engineering of enzymes for more suitable synthesis towards valuable molecules, particularly focussed on halogenases and ligases. This project is in collaboration with Prozomix and funded by BBSRC.

Outside of the lab, Jess enjoys staying active by playing badminton and going to the gym. She also has a keen eye for interior design!
