Joseph Thompson

Joseph received his MSci Chemistry degree from the University of Nottingham, and in his fourth year as part of a research project investigating novel transition metal-catalysed reactions such as hydrosilylation under the supervision of Prof. Hon Wai Lam with the aim of discovering greener chemistry. In his third year, he completed an industrial placement at GSK in Stevenage, supporting the synthesis of novel small molecules in the lead optimisation process. Throughout his degree, he gained extensive experience in synthetic organic chemistry and wishes to supplement that with knowledge of chemical biology techniques. He joined the Micklefield group in 2020 as a BBSRC funded PhD student to research new biosynthetic pathways to next generation antibiotics.

Outside of the lab, Joe enjoys reading and playing guitar.
