She obtained a 1st class M.Sc. in Chemistry from the Justus-Liebig-University in Germany in 2013. During the degree, she gained a diverse chemistry knowledge with a focus on biological inorganic chemistry under the supervision of Prof. Siegfried Schindler. Eileen’s master’s project dealing with methane monooxygenase model systems was carried out under the supervision of Prof. Vickie McKee at Loughborough University and funded by an ERASMUS scholarship.

Eileen joined the Micklefield group in November 2013 as a postgraduate researcher working in the field of biocatalysis. She is currently developing new halogenases for the regioselective installation of halogens on electron-rich substrates. Her research interests include enzyme engineering, enzymology, biosynthetic pathway reconstruction in E.Coli and natural product synthesis. Techniques applied on a day to day basis involve the chemical synthesis of substrates and standards, heterologous gene expression and protein purification, HPLC, NMR, LCMS and MS.

Eileen is a native German speaker and fluent in English. In her spare time, you can find her at the ballet either performing herself or watching in the audience.

Publications

Development of Halogenase Enzymes for Use in Synthesis J.
