Hons. in Industrial Chemistry from the Universiti Malaysia Sabah, Malaysia (2008). She was awarded the Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship for her M.Sc (2011-2013) and Ph.D (2013-2016) at The University of Tokyo. Under the supervision of Professor Tomohisa Kuzuyama, her research in Japan focuses on the structural elucidation and biosynthesis of novel polyketides discovered <em>via<\/em> activation of cryptic gene clusters in <em>Streptomyces<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>She joined the Micklefield group in 2017 to work on designing and engineering non-ribosomal peptide synthetase (NRPS) and biosynthetic pathways for the total biosynthesis of semi-synthetic antibiotics.<\/p>\n<p>Outside of the research lab, she enjoys being outdoors hiking, weather permitting, otherwise, you will find her at the bouldering centre or baking at home with her cat.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Wei Li received her B.Sc.
